Newest Member Induction - Rocky Vista University - Mia Nevala
Rocky Vista University has a Rotary Community Corps that has been active for several years.  Today, the President of the RCC at RVU was inducted as a member of the Rotary Club of Parker.   RCC was granted a complimentary membership for the President of their RCC to enhance our relationships.  Please welcome Mia Nevala to our membership.
Interact Club at Chaparral High School
The Club is in need of Interact Sponsors.  Ideally a pair of Rotarians would share duties, which include:

  • Attending weekly meetings.  Chaparral meets on Fridays from 3PM to 4 PM.
  • Communicating and encouraging participation in Club service projects.
  • Point of contact for District
  • Interacting with faculty advisors Joe Culotta and Carolyn Ford.
  • Periodic updates of the Interact Club activities to the Rotary Club of Parker
This is a great opportunity to see the community's youth at work!  Your help is needed. Please see Tom Furmanski for more details or e-mail at tfurm@aol.com.
The Denver Indian Center Needs Our Help
A club food drive for the Denver Indian Center food bank will occur in our club on September 21. The Parker Task Force will join our club in supplying needed food items to help American Indian Families who lack sufficient food to feed their families and who turn to the DIC food bank for help.

The American Indian Committee of our District is recruiting Rotary clubs to provide food for the DIC food bank once a year. The Southeast Rotary Club began this process delivering food in August.

Please bring to our meeting on September 21 any of the following items that you wish to provide for the DIC food bank:

Non-perishable items including:

1. Macaroni-cheese
2. Hunts canned spaghetti
3. Canned soup.
4. Canned vegetables
5. Canned fruit.
6. Rice
7. Any kind of pasta or noodles including Ramen noodles
8. Peanut butter
9. Any kind of jelly
10. Juice
12. Cereals including Quaker Oats

I will be collecting and delivering, with the help of other members of our club, collected food items to the DIC.  Would members willing to help me collect and deliver this food on the 21st please email me? Someone with a truck would be appreciated.

Thank you for your contribution.

International Project for the Rotary Club of Parker
The Club has decided to undertake an international project this Rotary year which involves traveling to a reasonably reachable country to perform a service project. To this end the Respire Haiti Christian School located in Gressier, Haiti, west of Port au Prince, has been chosen. Assisting this school means better lives for the children involved and ultimately will lead to a stronger and more prosperous Haiti which is the poorest country in our hemisphere. You can learn more about the school by visiting its web site at www.RespireHaiti.org.

The school has a guest house which will accommodate 16 of our members. We have made reservations at the guest house for January 29 until February 5, 2018. Tentatively we would travel to Gressier on Jan. 29 and return home on Feb. 5. Work days would occur Jan. 30-31, Feb. 1-3 with a tour day on Jan. 4. It is our plan to visit with the Leogane Rotary Club with which we have been working on our grants.

The Respire Haiti Christian School exists for the benefit of approximately 500 students grades K-9. These students are primarily orphans and restavecs (child servants or slaves in the Haitian culture) who reside with families in the community. Our work there is still under discussion with the school which always has need for volunteers to assist with the physical plant, classrooms, and other work.

In order to plan for this trip we need to determine how many of our Rotarians, and their spouses, wish to go. It is also vital that those going consider the necessary steps to protect themselves with appropriate medical advise and shots well ahead of the actual travel time. We will be circulating through the club a sign up sheet over the next three weeks. Those that sign up will receive two emails provided by Respire which approximate costs and  a list of activities and items needed to prepare for this trip.

This is your opportunity to perform humanitarian service in an amazing country, to learn about another culture by personally meeting and visiting with its people, and to use your skills for the benefit of children. I hope you will join us on this trip.

If you have  questions please feel free to call me at 303-453-9067.

Thank you,

Crafty Project
Back in 2015 we bought wine glasses and goblets for the State of the Town and the Mayor's Ball.  We've used the glasses at three different events.  Now it is time to move those glasses along.  Help is needed to etch snowflakes on the glasses. This is a simple project and no experience is needed to help.  We have 100 snowflake patterns to tape on the glasses and then we need to brush on the etching paint.    We have a booth at the Parker Senior Center Craft Show on Friday, October 13th and Saturday, October 14th.  We need to have 1 or 2 volunteers each shift to help sell.  The second Craft Fair is at Lincoln Meadows on November 18th from 9 - 4 and we'll need volunteers.   One etched glass for $3.00 or a set of 6 for $10.00.   We will have Rotary information to go with each sale.

These will make nice AFFORDABLE Christmas Presents for family, friends, co-workers, etc.  Please email or call Kam Breitenbach to help in any way or email at kamiebreitenbach@gmail.com.
