This week's speaker will be Heather Ehle, Founder and CEO of Project Snactuary.
Heather is a Registered Nurse (RN) with more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry as a nurse, manager, volunteer and entrepreneur After reading that the rates of child abuse and neglect triple when a parent is deployed, Heather was moved to do something and founded Project Sanctuary in 2007. Being a civilian without direct ties to military families, she reached out to the community for support and education. Led by veterans and her board, she carefully listened to what the military families needed and then structured Project Sanctuary’s programs to meet those needs, pulling from her background as an RN to establish an evidence-based program that encompasses spiritual, physical and emotional healing.
In 2012, Project Sanctuary was honored at the White House as one of only five 2012 “Joining Forces Community Challenge Winners,” chosen out of over 300 nominees in recognition of its work with military families.
Jacob Shafer became the newest member of our club on August 4th. Jacob was sponsored by his wife, Rotarian Shauna Shafer. David Selden, President Elect and Membership Committtee Chair, conducted the induction. Jacob is pictured with his family and David.
Sandy Ronayne served as our guest speaker. Her topic was "Women in the Civil War."
Grant Evonsan talked about his experience attending RYLA.
Parker Rotarians helped introduce Remi "the drug sniffing police dog" to the Parker Community during a meet and greet. Remi and his handler, Officer Cashman, were stationed at the gazebo in O'Brien Park during the Police Department's National Night Out Event held on Saturday, August 6.
Did you know that August is Rotary's Membership Month? The Rotary website lists many programs to engage with other Rotarians and to make new connections outside our club and district. A few ways to get involved include:
Rotary Friendship Exchange Program: Discover new cultures and make friends all over the world.
Rotary Fellowships: Join to share passions and hobbies with other Rotarians.
Rotarian Action Groups: Read about activities and projects undertaken by action groups. Collaborate and lend your expertise to help other Rotarians make their service projects more impactful.
Become involved with a RCC: Our Club sponsors two of them!

Open World Delegation
As you know, from September 10-18 we host a Delegation from Ukraine under the US Sponsored program called "Open World". There will be 5 DELEGATES plus an accompany travel facilitator and an interpreter for a total of 7 people. The topic and interest of the 5 Delegates is "EFFICIENCY" (energy, planning, sustainability, alternative & clean energy, implementation, technical solutions, ideas, visions, etc.). This group will be kindly hosted in some of our Rotarian homes, BUT they will be here to follow and fully participate to a specific 'working program", which has been carefully designed for the 5 Delegates and not for the facilitator and/or the interpreter.
When the program is finalized, I will send it out together with an RSVP note for each activity (presentation, visit, excursion, etc.) in this program. I then kindly ask you to reply to this RSVP to confirm your participation to each daily activity and working presentation/visit we will have. We are requested to submit the exact number of participants and your cooperation is a "must".
Thank you for actively participating to this exciting program and for the sure welcoming this international delegation will receive from Rotarians in our Club.
