On July 26 members of the Rotary Club of Parker were joined by Sharon Sjostrom of the Douglas Land Conservancy (DLC), and our guide, Brian O’Malley from the Town of Parker, to tour the Harvie Open Space in Parker.  We saw and discussed the history of the land, artifacts of the Harvie family remaining on the property, and the Town’s plans for developing the open space so that it can be enjoyed by Parker residents while maintaining its undeveloped character.  Most importantly, we discussed what type of hands-on projects the club might engage in with the Town and DLC.

As an initial project, we are planning on a Saturday morning noxious weed (like the thistle in the photo) mitigation project in late August (date TBD) that we hope attracts participation from our members!  It will be a good project to bring your kids, grandkids and/or friends and neighbors.  As the Town’s plans for the park’s development approach implementation, we will seek other opportunities as well.
