Denver Indian Center Holiday Support
Denver Indian Center Holiday Support-Rotary American Indian Committee

Please bring used clean men or women's winter coats, gloves, scarves, suits, sport coats, slacks, socks, shoes to our club meeting on October 25th so they can be taken to the DIC. Dress clothes will be given to impoverished Indians who are interviewing for jobs. Winter coats for children and youth will also be welcome.

The club will, with other Rotary clubs, be donating cash to the DIC to purchase turkey coupons given to Indian families for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.

Please note on your calendars November 17 for Thanksgiving Basket give away and December 15 Christmas toys and gift giveaway for children and youth. There will be a 9Health Fair at the DIC on November 15 following the Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway if any of you would like to help with the Health Fair.

Please bring to the club meetings on November 15th or 29th unwrapped gifts for youth, ages pre-k through high school, so they can be taken to the DIC before Dec. 1.

The December 15th giveaway is a joy to experience and help with and it would be great if at least six of our club members would go over early that day to help wrap and give out presents. Thank you. Questions? Please call Mike Oldham 303-453-9067

Last Friday, the people of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia looked on in horror as giant waves crashed onto their shores.
First, the island was hit by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Then a tsunami tore through the region, flattening everything in its path and turning thousands of homes into rubble.
Families have been left devastated as they struggle with the catastrophic aftermath. Thousands are still searching for lost family members, while also enduring landslides and power outages. It is estimated that more than 1,300 have died and over 50,000 people are homeless. ShelterBox is deploying a Response Team to help people made homeless by this disaster. ShelterBox has aid pre-positioned in nearby Malaysia which will be deployed for this emergency.
Given the scope of this disaster, additional aid support is urgently needed.  The Rotary Club of Parker will be collecting donations for Shelter Box and the Indonesian relief effort at our meetings on Thursday October 11th and October 18th.

Now Accepting Nominations for the State of the Town Impact Award
Here is a snapshot of the qualifications for our Parker Impact Award:  First an individual or group that exemplifies the Rotary Motto:  “Service Above Self”.  The nominee(s) must be Parker residents, or someone who provides exceptional service to the Parker Community.  The action the nominee took or provided cannot have been honored by another organization.   Examples are  compassionate actions, humanitarian actions, life-saving actions.
Nominations may be submitted by anyone (need not be a Parker Resident to make an nomination).  If I have the luxury of having 3 or 4 nominees, historically we have awarded only one award with the notable exception of 2016 when we made two awards.  My intention is to make a minimum of two awards going forward, and I’d like to reserve the right to make more if that is justified by a number of extraordinary and deserving nominees.
The Annual State of the Town will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Business Networking 11:00 AM - 11:3- AM, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM :Luncheon/Program.  The event will take place at the Vehicle Vault, 1830 Lincoln Meadow Pkwy, Parker, CO  80134.  Tickets and sponsorships are available.
