At Our Last Meeting
The meeting of Thursday, December 1st featured a special by Isiah McGregory with "Up With People."  Isiah started off with a little geography quiz and awarded prizes to the lucky winners.    Ron Saatjiian was inducted as a new member (sponsored by Deann Olson) and Renee Williams of To The Rescue was welcomed as the Club's first Corporate Membership.

Meet Ron Saatjian

Meet Rotarian Ron Saatjian

Ron Saatjian is the newest member of the Parker Rotary Club.  Ron was born in Albany NY in 1946 and grew up in LA with two sisters and a brother.

As a child, Ron kept busy by being a Boy Scout (Star Scout), having a paper route and mowing lawns. In high school Ron was in various academic and service clubs. He attended UCLA, graduating with a degree in Business Administration.

After graduating college, Ron volunteered for the Air Force and flew 150 reconnaissance missions in North Vietnam 1971-72 in the F-4 Phantom jet, achieving the rank of Captain, and was awarded ten air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Ron hold a Commercial Pilot license and was a Certified Flight Instructor for single and multi-engine aircraft.  He then went on to earn an MBA degree in Management. Ron became a real estate broker and ran his own company, specializing in small business sales. He owned and operated three small businesses.

In 1988, Ron applied to the US Postal Service to leverage his education and worked in several management positions. He retired from the Postal Service in 2016 and stated that his postal experience was in Marketing and Operations mostly involved with performance analysis and program management.

Ron became a life member of VFW, a member of the American Legion and Lyons club.  He is a member of the Civil Air Patrol with its various volunteer missions in Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. He has been a continual member of the Episcopal Church and served on three of its Vestries.  Now he can add Rotarian to his lengthy list of service and accomplishments.

Ron was sponsored by Deann Olson.  Welcome Ron!
Rotarians Celebrate the Season

Rotarians celebrated the season in style during last week's Christmas party.  The event was held at the Colorado Golf Club and was planned by Rotarian Sue Gardner.
The food, music and company was delightful and it appeared as though a good time was had by all.
Please remember that if you forgot to bring your gift card for the Parker Task Force, you may still bring it to the meeting on Thursday.

Thank You From Li Pettett
                        A SPECIAL THANK-YOU!

I would like to recognize our absolutely amazing club members,
who gave so generously toward the Shelter Box program.

The International Committee had budgeted $1,000 for one Shelter
Box and after the Haiti hurricane immediately sent a check to
purchase and mail one box.

Considering the extent of the devastation, we made an appeal to
club members during one of the meetings and ended up with an
amazing $3,330 in donations.  This allowed us to purchase 3 more
Shelter Boxes, for a total of 4 during a time when they were so
badly needed.

Special thank-you's go to:

Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus)
Rotarian Breakfast with Santa was held at the Parker Senior Center on Saturday, December 3.  The event was attended by approximately 150 people.

Santa (Rotarian Steve Sumption) had breakfast with the attendees and was joined by Mrs. Claus (AKA: Madame President - Rotarian Kam Breitenbach) and our very own elf (Rotarian Exchange Student from Finland). Music was provided by Rotarian Jim Muir. Other Rotarians enjoying the fun were Jane Johnson, Deann Olson, Ron Saatjian and Jan Beller.

RCC members helped with set up and clean up along with students from College Early College in Parker. Mrs. Parker - Stacey James also came to great everyone!

Rotarians at Parker Carriage Parade
Rotarians helped out at the Parker Christmas Carriage Parade.  Rotarian Mark (AKA: Elf) Scheuneman "jumps for joy" as he gets caught up in the moment at the parade.  Mark's duties included helping to direct traffic and handing out programs and gifts from the Town of Parker.  Thanks to Jim Boyd for the awesome photo!
