Parker Uncorked a Success!

Parker Uncorked went splendidly well, particularly for our first outing.  If you were not able to attend the event in person, click here to view a slide show with some highlights.

Thank you to Michael Graham-Hyde and Alex Doyle for your work to get this inaugural fundraiser going.  And thank you to all of the Rotarians who pitched in, either through volunteering or through sponsoring.

World Polio Day October 24

Rotary has partnered with organizations around the world since 1988 in an attempt to completely eradicate the disease polio from the world.  We have gotten tantalizingly close, but the last push is going to take an all-out effort for a few more years.  The October 2022 issue of Rotary magazine has an excellent article summarizing the progress that we have made and explaining some of the recent stumbling blocks that have cropped up.  But Rotary maintains its commitment to pursuing the achievable goal of eradicating polio completely.

One of the best ways YOU can contribute to this effort is by making a donation to PolioPlus.  The attached chart presented by Mike Oldham and John Huffaker from Rotary magazine shows how the funds have been used.  District 5450 has gone a step further by encouraging all of us to join the PolioPlus Society, committing to donate $100 a year until the world is certified polio-free by the World Health Organization.  Click here to download the information on the PolioPlus Society.

Welcome, Charlie Hargett!

We welcome transferring member Charlie Hargett to our club.  Charlie grew up southwest of Wichita, Kansas and later completed high school in Phoenix, Arizona. He joined the Air Force and was on active duty for 12 years in Phoenix, Japan, Florida, and Turkey.  His assignments were in flightline support, working on engines, and later in the procurements and contracts office.

Charlie received a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior University in New York while on military duty and later received an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix with emphasis on healthcare and administration.

Combining his military experience and education, Charlie started his own consulting firm, FP&C Consulting.  He and his staff function as advisors to individuals and businesses that want to do business and/or contracts with the federal government.  Please introduce yourself to Charlie!

Do You Have a Creative Streak?  We Have a Project for You!

For the past several years the club has contributed a decorated tree to the Festival of Trees fundraiser at Cimarron Middle School in Parker.  Here’s a picture of last year’s Rotary Club of Parker tree, covered with snacks from around the world.  Attendees bid on the trees, with proceeds going to the school.

We are once again planning to donate a tree to the Festival on Saturday, December 3.  This year’s theme is Nordic Wonderland.  There is a small amount for the tree budgeted under Community Service. If you think this sounds like a fun project and would like more information, please contact Susan Gustin at sjgustin@comcast.net.
