Dr. Jon Kedrowski –

 

Our guest speaker for the morning was Dr. Jon Kedorwski, PhD from Vail (CO) who was introduced by Rotarian Jim Boyd.  Dr. Kedrowski is a noted author, ski-mountaineer and geographer.  Two of his better known books are “Sleeping on the Summits:  Colorado Fourteener High Bivys” and “Skiing and Sleeping on the Summits:  Cascade Volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest Skiing 20 Peaks in 30 Days.”  Jon addressed his experience at the Mount Everest basecamp in April 2015 when the Nepal earthquake struck.  He was unhurt himself by the quake and was able to help with recovery efforts where 18 climbers lost their lives.

Congratulations to Matt Rivas for being named Chaparral HS Student of the Month for April 2017!  Rotarian Dave Gardner introduced Matt.  Matt has a 4.2 GPA and plans on studying international relations at the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a member of the Interact Club and co-led a successful RCC Homecoming for special needs students.  Matt's hobbies include hiking and mountain climbing.
