In Memoriam: Lindy Blackburn

We mourn the death of long-time Rotarian Lindy Blackburn on December 17, 2020. Among his many contributions, Lindy was serving the club as President of the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Parker. As noted on the website for Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services, a celebration of Lindy's life will be held when COVID-19 allows large groups to properly gather.

You may send cards to Tanne at 11350 Night Heron Drive, Parker, CO 80134. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Parker Impact Award Nominations are Open

We will be presenting the Parker Impact Award as usual at the State of the Town event on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  Nominations are now open!  Surely you can think of a person/group who deserves recognition for the way(s) they have served Parker during the difficult year of 2020.  For more information on the nomination process, click here.

End-of-the-Year Donations

As you are considering your end-of-the-year charitable contributions, please keep our club in mind.   We are currently raising money for the 2021 State of the Town, scheduled as a virtual event to be held on February 23, 2021.  Our goal is to raise an average of $500 from each Rotarian (for a total of $30,000), understanding that some members cannot give $500 while others can give more.  As of December 20, we have raised $4,250 from six Rotarians.  Please note that if you give in 2020, the money will benefit the 2021-2022 Rotary year; if you donate after January 1, it will benefit the 2022-2023 Rotary year.

Please make checks payable to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation and mail to P.O. Box 1472, Parker, CO 80134.  Be sure to put a notation on the memo line for State of the Town.

New Promotional Video on Website

The club has a terrific new promotional video, thanks to former member Tim Ryerson!  You can view the video from the Home page of our club website.  Or if you want to see the video straight from YouTube, click here.

Ring Out the Old, Ring in the New

As we get ready to leave 2020 behind us and move forward to 2021, here are two transitions to note:

  • 2020: Record your volunteer hours.  Even though our volunteering opportunities looked different in 2020, there was still plenty of volunteering that took place, including all of the behind-the-scenes work to keep the club running.  Click here to access the Member Resources screen where there is a link to record your volunteer hours.

  • 2021: Sign up on the club duty roster.   Please go to the online duty roster for the club and sign up for one of the jobs that makes our meetings run, such as leading the Pledge of Allegiance or the Four-Way Test.  The duty roster is on the Home page of the club website.

Student of the Month for December: Chaparral High School

We congratulate Brooks Bacon on being selected as the December Student of the Month for Chaparral High School!  Brooks joined us at our December 17 meeting accompanied by his parents Greg and Kendra.

As one teacher noted, Brooks exemplifies the Chaparral motto Take Care of One Another.  He has served the Chaparral community with Sources of Strength, a suicide-prevention program, since 2017.  He also participates in Link Crew, student government, and DECA.  Brooks has lettered academically all four years of high school.  He told us that he was able to participate in the Fall cross-country season and is looking forward to spring track.

Brooks is still finalizing his college plans, but is considering majoring in biology or business.  We wish you great success in your future endeavors, Brooks!
