Toys for Make-A-Wish Colorado

Rotarians Scott Dishong, President and CEO of Make-a-Wish Colorado and Michael Graham-Hyde, President of the Rotary Club of Parker

A group of Rotarians visited the offices of Make-a-Wish Colorado to drop off toys that we had donated.  The toys will fill the claw machine pictured here -- kids who are in the offices to discuss their wish get the chance to choose something from the machine.  Many thanks to all who contributed toys!

We Welcome New Members!

We are excited to welcome new members to the Rotary Club of Parker!

From the left: mentor Mike Oldham, Dr. Rex Corr, Jim Boyd

Dr. Rex Corr

Rex grew up in Littleton, Colorado.  He graduated from Bear Creek High School and attended the University of Northern Colorado, earning his bachelor’s degree in Theater and English Education.  Rex’s career path led him to be the Director of Theater at Northridge High School in Greeley and at Cherry Creek High School.  He became the Assistant Principal at Castle View High School in Castle Rock and later the Principal.  During this time, Rex completed work on his master’s and doctoral degrees in education.

Rex is currently the director of Douglas County School District’s new Legacy Campus, whose mission is to cultivate career and technical education. Current programs include architectural engineering, culinary/hospitality management, robotics and automation, aviation, nursing, and emergency medical services (EMT/EMS).

From the left: mentor Gail Lehrmann, Taunya Lanier, Jim Boyd

Taunya Lanier

Taunya Lanier grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado as a member of a large family.  Shortly after high school, she met her soon-to-be husband who was attending Colorado Mesa College in Montrose. They married and moved to Las Vegas where they began their professional careers and family.  Her first job was as a human resource manager in a software start-up.  Several years later she became an agent associate in a real estate group (2005-2011).  She and her family moved to Denver in 2011 and she became a broker associate with RE/Max Alliance.

Education has been important in Taunya’s career development.  She graduated from a realty school while in Las Vegas and has continued with many certifications while living in Colorado: Certified Residential Specialist, Graduate Realtor Institute, Accredited Buyers Representative, Seller Representative Specialist, and Certified Staging Advocate.  She is a member of the Douglas Elbert Realtors Association and of the National & Colorado Association of Realtors.

From the left: mentor Mac McCloud, Michael Ruhsenberger, Jim Boyd

Michael Ruhsenberger

Michael is a transfer Rotarian.  He was raised in a Navy family in Seattle, Washington.  He served in the ROTC at the University of Washington and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Economics. He then embarked on a 22-year military service career flying F18s for 16 of those years. He has flown combat missions over Iraq and served as a Navy attaché in Kiev, Ukraine before the current war in that country.

Michael graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with an MBA in Business.  He served as an economic officer specializing in small/medium businesses and poverty for the U.S. Department of State in Mexico City, Mexico. He also worked for the State Department as a diplomat for 6 years: Moldova in Human Rights, Bogotá, Columbia as a Counselor; and Mexico City in Economic Development.

After his military service, Michael has held several different aviation jobs dealing with operations and safety.  Currently, he is the Senior VP of Performance and Accountability with Denver Air Connection.

From the left: mentor Sue Garwood, Shanna Schmidt, Jim Boyd

Shanna Schmidt

Shanna grew up on a cattle farm near Bayard, Nebraska (20 miles southeast of Scottsbluff).  As a child, she learned the values of hard work, dedication, and community. She participated in numerous Rotary events with her Rotarian grandfather.

Shanna’s desire to be near the Rocky Mountains led her to Denver in 2003 where she pursued a career in the healthcare industry.  She became a technical sales specialist for a cardiopulmonary equipment company; in 8+ years of service, she rose to the position of Director of Marketing, Cardiac Surgery.  She earned both a Bachelor of Business Management and an MBA in Business Management and Marketing degrees from Regis University while working in this healthcare industry.

While traveling extensively for her job during COVID, Shanna determined she needed a professional change in direction.  While helping her husband Brad Colburn, a seasoned real estate expert, she was inspired by his passion for helping others.   She sought out licensure in the real estate profession and has formed a partnership with Brad (Next Chapter Partners) within the Madison & Company Properties.

Please introduce yourself and make a point of welcoming these newest Rotarians!

Did You Know? – Ways to Donate to the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Parker

All of the service projects our club undertakes are supported by funding from the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Parker.  When we support the Foundation, we help make service projects possible.

We have several fundraisers for the Foundation planned in 2024:

  • State of the Town (May)

  • Palisade peach sales (August)

  • Parker Uncorked wine festival (October)

With State of the Town and Parker Uncorked, we solicit sponsorships from local businesses.  You can get an idea of our current sponsors on the Home page of our club website.

As a Rotarian, in addition to supporting the fundraisers through your volunteering and soliciting of sponsorships, you can make direct donations to the Foundation through four mechanisms:

  • By Zelle (the preferred method)

  • By check

  • By credit card

  • With a vehicle donation.

For more information on donation mechanisms and links, go to the Foundation page on the club website.  Your donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible.

For more information on the Foundation itself – its bylaws and current Trustees – check out the Foundation page on the club website.
