October Service Opportunities: Help Promote Youth Mental Health Awareness in Douglas County

Concerned by the mental health challenges facing our youth and wanting to help do something about it, the Rotary Club of Parker is collaborating with Douglas County Schools, Safe2Tell Colorado plus five other area Rotary clubs to provide colorful wristbands promoting the services of Safe2Tell to Douglas County high school students.  Safe2Tell provides “an anonymous way for students, parents, school staff, and community members to report concerns regarding their safety or the safety of others” (https://safe2tell.org/). The wristbands contain a hopeful message and contact information for Safe2Tell.  We are also delivering posters advertising Safe2Tell to high schools in Parker, Castle Rock, Castle Pines and Highlands Ranch during October.

We will hand out wristbands during Ponderosa and Chaparral High School football games at Echo Park Stadium in Parker in October.  Here are two crews of Rotarians at work -- Ron Sorlien and  Tricia Fahey at the Ponderosa game on October 8 and Michael Graham-Hyde and Shawn McMillin with two Interact students at the Chaparral game on October 15:

We have two more dates coming up:

  • Thursday, October 21, 5:15-8:30 p.m.  Chaparral vs. Douglas County

  • Friday, October 22, 6:15-9:30 p.m.  Ponderosa vs. Vista Ridge (Colorado Springs)

To volunteer for one of those dates,

Questions?  Contact Jim Boyd (jboydrockies@gmail.com).

Thank you to the committee who put this service opportunity together: Jim Boyd, Karen Jefferson, Lisa Neal-Graves and Gail Lehrmann.  And thank you to Gail to spreading this opportunity to other Rotary clubs in our area!

From the left: Ponderosa teacher Jennifer Cormier, Student of the Month Ainsley DeLockroy, parents Brett and Terra DeLockroy and Rotarian Linda Kamerling.

Congratulations to Ainsley DeLockroy, October Student of the Month for Ponderosa High School!    Ainsley joined us at the October 14 meeting, accompanied by her parents and Ponderosa teacher Jennifer Cormier.

As teacher Jennifer Cormier notes, “Ainsley is kind, compassionate, intelligent, hard working, and never self-serving…[she demonstrates] all the traits of a servant leader including a tireless work ethic, compassion for those around her, a commitment to excellence, and a strong drive to serve and better her community.   Ainsley serves Ponderosa as a cabinet member for FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), a co-sponsor of Sources of Strength and secretary of National Honor Society.  She is also a state officer and district representative for DECA, a business and marketing organization.  As Cornier notes, “In this role, she actively leads not only the 150 members of the Ponderosa chapter, but also over 5,0000 students across Colorado.”  Ainsley has also served Parker as a volunteer for Comcast Cares and she has been named the volunteer of the month for SECOR.

Ainsley plans to study health care administration before going on to law school.  We wish you the best in your future endeavors, Ainsley!
