St. Pat's Day Meeting Kick Off

St. Pat's Day Meeting

Liz Volz, appropriately decked out in green, started off our meeting last week by playing Danny Boy on her flute in observance of St. Patrick's Day.

While it was hard for some of us singing along to hit the high notes, it was fun trying.

Thanks Liz!
Heather Miyazawa Named Chaparral Student of the Month
Congratulations to Heather Miyazawa for being named  Chaparral High School Student of the Month
for the Month of March.  Pictured with Heather are her parents, Naomi and Eric.
Denver Broncos Head Trainer Featured Speaker

World Champion Denver Broncos Head Athletic Trainer Featured Speaker

Mr. Steve Antonopulos was the featured speaker at the March 17th meeting.  Mr. Antonopulos serves as the head athletic trainer for the World Champion Denver Broncos.

During his presentation, Mr. Antonopulos told the Rotarians about how he got into the profession - starting out as an athletic trainer at Fort Hays State University in 1973 and working with them for just under 3 years.  He has been with the Broncos since 1976 and has served as the Head Athletic Trainer since 1980 - giving him the second longest tenure in the profession.

Through his presentation, it was obvious that he has a deep love and respect for the game, the profession and for all members of the Bronco organization.

Mr. Antonopulos graciously answered questions at the conclusion of his presentation.

Host Families Needed for Youth Exchange!
Host Families for Youth Exchange Needed!

As announced our club will be hosting a Rotary Youth Exchange student beginning in August of this year through June of 2017.

This is one of Rotary's great programs that builds international understanding and helps everyone involved learn about each others country. It is an enriching opportunity for our entire Rotary club and the community of greater Parker. The objective is to build world cooperation and peace.

Host families host the exchange student for about three months each. Host families can be one person, a couple, a couple with small children, or a couple with older children. There is no requirement that a host family have a specific number or make up.

When my former wife and I hosted our Swiss student (with whom I am still corresponding) in 2004-2005 I was president of our club. With careful planning hosting is easily achieveable and very worthwhile.

Please consider helping our club and our student guest have a wonderful visit here.

This student will attend Ponderosa high school and host families should originate from a geographical area convenient to the high school which would include Main Street Parker south to Franktown.

As the Youth Exchange chair for our club I invite,  your inquiry about this opportunity. I will be delighted to share the details of being a host family with you.

Please help this student, our club, and Rotary to succeed with this great program.

Thank you, Mike Oldham, meoldham@msn.com, 303-453-9067

Volunteers Needed!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Promised Ranch is a therapeutic ranch who change lives though adaptive riding and therapeutic gardening for the developmentally disabled. Our veterans program will be started this spring, with veterans helping veterans. We need side walkers, people interested in grooming and caring for our herd, grant writers, project management, landscaping and fund raising. The list and opportunities are endless. All help is greatly valued and appreciated. The need is great, as there is a waiting list for people needing the therapy we provide. You can open the doors for more people by volunteering! Please contact Rotarian Mark Scheuneman at mark.scheuneman@gmail.com.
Pictured below are Jane and Al Johnson, Kam Breitenback and Mark Scheuneman during a tour of Promise Ranch last Saturday.

RYLA and YRYLA Registration Now Open!
RYLA and YRYLA registration begins on February 15th and runs through April 30th

Request From RCC of Parker
How Many Rotary Clubs Can Do a Hands-on Project Together?

Hello from Nathan, Doug and Katie of the Rotary Community Corps of Parker! We could use your help with one of our projects. We’re making fleece blankets and need help cutting the material. We want to see how many Rotary Clubs we can get to help with at least one blanket. Thanks!
The Rotary Community Corps (RCC) of Parker, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Parker, is making fleece blankets for a local hospital and people in need in the community for the Christmas Holiday 2016.

Your club can get on Board with this hands-on project! We need fleece material cut and ready to be tied (do not tie). The RCC club has many developmentally delayed members and cutting material is difficult. But they can tie the strips finishing the blankets and deliver them! Be creative and add the name of your Rotary Club to your blanket/blankets! Instructions Purchase 1.5 yards of fleece. Cut a 4″ square from each corner. Cut fringe 1″ wide and 4″ deep on all sides. No special scissors needed. Mail cut fleece to the Kam Breitenbach, Rotary Club of Parker, 5714 Stetson Court, Parker, CO 80134 USA. The Rotary Community Corps of Parker will do the rest! Please mail or email a picture, name of your Rotarian or Rotarians cutting the blanket material with the name of your club, participants and number of volunteer hours. We will post your information on the Rotary Community Corps Facebook page and add you to our monthly newsletter. For more information or questions contact Kam Breitenbach: kamieb1234@gmail.com.
SUMMARY: Cut & Remove 4” square from each corner Now cut strips (but do not remove) on each side. See picture.
