2021 State of the Town

Yes, we are moving ahead with plans for the 2021 State of the Town on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  But there will be some differences:

  • We expect that the event will be in a virtual format.

  • We are focusing our fundraising efforts on members of the club.  We hope to raise an average of $500 per member, understanding that some will be able to contribute more and some less.  Please send your donation to Rotary Club of Parker Foundation, PO Box 1472, Parker, CO  80134.

Many aspects of the State of the Town will be familiar.  We will hear from the newly elected mayor, Jeff Toborg, as well as viewing the Town’s most recent promotional video.  And we will present the Parker Impact Award (see below).  We'll keep you posted as the final details fall into place.

Parker Impact Award

We will be presenting the Parker Impact Award as usual at the State of the Town event on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  Nominations are open!  Surely you can think of a person/group who deserves recognition for the way(s) they have served Parker in this difficult year of 2020.  For more information on the nomination process, click here.

  • Access the club’s website at https://parkerrotary.org/

  • Click on Calendar on the menu bar at the top of the screen

  • Once you’re on the calendar, click on the date you are interested in.  If you click on December 3, you can see the information that is set up for Ryan Warner’s presentation

We plan to provide links to the speaker’s website as well as any PowerPoint presentation that the speaker uses (assuming that we can get permission).

Student of the Month for November – Chaparral High School

We were happy to welcome Mikaela Fischer, November Student of the Month for Chaparral High School to our December 3 Zoom meeting, accompanied by her mom Judy.

Mikaela has lettered academically all four years of high school.  She currently serves as the Senior Class Vice-president and is involved with DECA and Link Crew.  One teacher praised her for “immediately mobilizing to make thousands of masks for those in need” when the pandemic struck earlier this year.  Mikaela is also on the Poms team.

Mikaela has set her sights on attending an East coast school to major in biology and eventually to study neurology.  Congratulations, Mikaela!

Student of the Month for December – Ponderosa High School

Congratulations to Carter Motichka, the December Student of the Month for Ponderosa High School!  Carter was able to attend our December 10 Zoom meeting; also joining us were parents Kelly and Mark Motichka and Ponderosa coaches Max Schuman (basketball) and Jaron Cohen (football).

Carter is a triple threat, with strong academic skills, athletic skills, and a record of service to the Ponderosa community.  He has played varsity basketball and football (serving as team captain) and is First Team Academic All-State.  In addition, he has lettered academically all years of high school and is currently ranked 6th in a class of 346.

Carter currently serves as student body treasurer at Ponderosa.  He has also served as a Link Crew leader and on the Student Advisory Group.  He has worked with youth in various Hawks Football and Ponderosa sports camps in both football and basketball.

Carter hopes to major in biology on his way to becoming a neurosurgeon.  We wish you the best, Carter!
