Help a New Rotarian - Become a Mentor!
The Rotary Membership Committee is looking for Mentors for our new members.  Would you like to be a Mentor to help a new member to attain their Blue Badge?

The Rotary Membership Committee is looking for Mentors for our new members.  Would you like to be a Mentor to help a new member to attain their Blue Badge?

The role of a Mentor is to help the new Rotarian feel welcome in our club and quickly get settled in. The following guidelines identify a number of ways you can help the new Rotarian become acclimated to our club.

What's required?
• Help a new member meet other members by sitting with the new member at a different table each week. Everyone will enjoy the opportunity to meet and get to know our new member and get to know you better too.
• Meet initially with the new member to review the Red Badge Program checklist.  Encourage the new member to complete the requirements as soon as feasible.
• Have follow-up meetings with the new member, as needed, to review progress on the checklist and see what remains to be done all while offering encouragement and suggestions as needed.
• Help new member select a committee or committees to serve on. Encourage the new member to wear Rotary pin daily.
• Show new member the usefulness of the club’s website: www.parkerrotary.org, like our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/TheRotaryClubOfParker and register on My Rotary www.rotary.org/myrotary(You may need to do this too!)

Please let Kam know if you would like to help.  kamieb1234@gmail.com

Tour the Colorado Judicial Center!!!
Chief Judge Allen Loeb will lead a tour of the Colorado Judicial Center for interested members of our club, and their significant others, on March 7 commencing at 9:30 A.M. and lasting about 1.5 hours. This is an opportunity to learn about our appellate courts and to view the amazing structure which now houses these courts and their staff. Significantly Chief Judge Loeb will personally be involved in this tour bringing his all court working knowledge to the presentation. Our new judicial center houses the Colorado Supreme Court and Colorado Court of Appeals and is considered one of the finest facilities of its kind in the United States.

At our meetings on January 21 and 28 Mike Oldham will circulate a sign up clipboard for those who wish to participate.

Rotary Youth Exchange Returns to Our Club
Next August our club will host a young man from Germany as a Rotary Exchange Student. Our club has a proud tradition of hosting Youth Exchange and for many years hosted two students each year.

Youth Exchange began in Rotary in the 1920ties with limited exchanges of students between Scandinavian and U.S. clubs. The exchanges grew in popularity until 1972 when RI adopted the program world wide. Today more than 8000 Youth Exchange students travel abroad each year to live and study in about 80 countries. You can read more about this activity on the District and R.I. web sites.

This program enriches the sponsoring club in numerous ways, has a significant impact on the community and school attended by the student. One of the principle purposes of the program is to build world understanding a peace.

Please consider volunteering to host this student for approximately three months in your home. You do not have to have a student in your home to host. We need three host families to cover the span from August through the following May when the student will return home. In addition all members of the club will be asked to host this student for outings throughout the year so that he can learn about our culture. Our student will be asked to regularly attend our club meetings to get to know our members, report on his country, and share in club activities.

In 2004-2005 Carrie and I, along with two other families, hosted Nicole Stoop from Switzerland. We cherished the experience. I continue to correspond with Nicole who now has a masters in marketing with a job in New York. She has returned to Parker for a visit on several occasions and plans to return again in the near future.

Please let me know if your interested and I will share a complete list of the responsibilities involved with a host family.

Thank you. Mike Oldham

Project Cure

Project C.U.R.E. was founded in 1987 to help meet the need for medical supplies, equipment and services around the world. Project C.U.R.E. builds sustainable healthcare infrastructure by providing the medical supplies and equipment that medical personnel need to deliver healthcare to their communities. Since its inception, Project C.U.R.E. has delivered medical relief to needy people in more than 120 countries.

We will be sorting medical supplies for those who are in desperate need. This will be a fun, engaging and hands-on experience.
