Our main presentation at the August 8 meeting was from Elaine Mariner, Cultural Director for the Town of Parker and Director of the PACE Center. She outlined the exciting offerings of the upcoming 2019-2020 season at the PACE Center. For more information, see the Parker Arts website at https://parkerarts.org/. Luke Thornton, a Community Resource Specialist with Douglas County Open Spaces, Parks and Trails, described the Decode Douglas County program. This program, similar to a scavenger hunt, aims to encourage people to discover Douglas County’s many open spaces. Luke brought along a supply of the Decode Douglas County booklets. If you missed one, you can pick up a booklet at the Parker Rec Center or Fieldhouse. You can also download and print a PDF file with the brochure here.
Finally, we had a surprise supplemental presentation by Chris Buck, who was visiting the club with his father, Rotarian Irv Buck. Chris is currently Director of Administration for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, The Netherlands. Chris spoke briefly about the goals and activities of OPCW to eliminate current stockpiles of chemical weapons. For more information on OPCW, click here.

There will be a kick-off meeting for people interested in the Community Service Committee immediately following our regular weekly club meeting at Joy Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 22, 2019 (about 8:15 a.m.). The meeting will not exceed 1 hour.
We have a service opportunity to help out at the last three Wine Walks in downtown Parker (August 23 - September 27 - October 25), partnering with the Parker Chamber of Commerce. If you'd like to serve as a volunteer for one or more of the Wine Walks, please contact Mike.
We have a date and a chairperson for the 2020 State of the Town event! Steve Brown has agreed to chair the event, which will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the PACE Center.
