Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and Happy Evacuation Day!

You probably know about St. Patrick's Day, but Evacuation Day commemorates the day that British troops evacuated Boston (March 17, 1776) during the war for independence.  The British evacuation was General George Washington's first victory of the war.  It was also a morale boost for the Thirteen Colonies, as the city where the rebellion had begun was the first to be liberated.

Wanted -- Housing for Afghan Refugees

Alvaro Pisoni and several club members have met with the Afghan refugee family that we are hoping that our club can support.  The most pressing need right now is housing – we are looking for a two-bedroom apartment in Parker.  If you have any leads on apartments, please let Alvaro know right away (pisoni@pisoni.com).

Polio Plus 2022 Campaign

Thank you for your generous pledges to the Polio Plus campaign!  Now it's time to fulfill your pledge by sending a payment to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation.  You can either:

  • Bring a check to a meeting, made out to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation.  Please write Polio Plus in the memo line so the Foundation treasurer knows how to credit your donation, and so your donation is eligible for the Foundation match.

  • Mail a check to the Foundation (address = Rotary Club of Parker Foundation, P.O. Box 1472, Parker, CO  80134-1410).  The check should be made out to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation; please write Polio Plus in the memo line so the Foundation treasurer knows how to credit your donation, and so your donation is eligible for the Foundation match.

  • Send your donation to the Foundation using Zelle, directed to foundation@parkerrotary.org.  Please note Polio Plus in the memo area.  Click here to download instructions on using Zelle to make a payment to the club's Foundation.

Thank you for your support of this effort that has saved countless lives around the world.

We welcomed new member Edith Blankson on this snowy March morning.  Edith had invited a Rotary friend who joined us on our Zoom call from Accra, Ghana.  Please introduce yourself to Edith and welcome her to our club!

Paul Harris Fellows

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.  Gail Lehrmann shared a presentation with us on the work of the Rotary Foundation – click here to view the presentation.  Please click here to watch a brief video on the activities of the Foundation.

Some Fun!

Bored Meetings

All are invited to join in the Bored meetings, held most Thursday afternoons starting about 4:00 p.m.  This is an informal social time where we enjoy a beverage, solve the problems of the world, and get to know one another.  We have been meeting at Takoda Tavern (12365 Pine Bluffs Way, Parker).   Please join in as you are able!  Here is part of the group that convened on March 17.

5th Thursday -- March 31, 2022

March 31 is the fifth Thursday of the month, so according to club tradition we will have NO regular club meeting that morning.  Instead, we will have a Fifth Thursday social event -- dinner and the lively spirits of your choice starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Takoda Tavern (12365 Pine Bluffs Way, Parker).   Each attendee will pay his/her own tab at this event.  Please RSVP to Mike Oldham (meoldham@msn.com) so he can give an accurate count to Takoda’s.

Standing with Ukraine for Peace

Parker Impact Award 2022 – Nominate Someone!

One of the great joys the club has every year is to recognize individuals/groups who have made a significant contribution to Parker during the previous year, in keeping with Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.  We present the Parker Impact Awards in conjunction with the State of the Town event, coming up this year on May 12, 2022.  Dan O’Neill has agreed to head up the committee to solicit nominations and choose this year’s recipient(s).

Anyone, whether they are members of the club or not, can nominate someone to receive a Parker Impact Award.  We encourage you to think of people who deserve this recognition – ask friends and neighbors as well.  For more information on the nomination process, click here.

To view past recipients of the Parker Impact Award, click here.

If you have questions or would like to be part of the selection team, please contact Dan O’Neill at odie2450@comcast.net.
