From the left: Elaine McCain of the Douglas County Library Foundation, Librarian Rachel Brackenridge, Parker Library Manager Amy Long We had a visit from three representatives of Douglas County Libraries to thank us for our ongoing support of the Parker library. Elaine McCain described the mission and activities of the DCL Foundation, including scholarships for kids to attend school break camps hosted by the libraries. Elaine also mentioned the Foundation’s major fundraising gala coming up on September 27, 2019. For more information on the gala, click here. Librarian Rachel Brackenridge explained how the books that our club donates to the Parker Library in honor of our speakers are chosen. Our donation is used to purchase picture books. Librarians match the interests of our speakers with the focus of the picture books. As an example, Rachel brought along the picture book that will be dedicated in honor of the meeting’s speaker, Vicky Lea. Since Vicky’s topic was aerospace, the picture book that will be dedicated in her honor is called Rocket Says “Look Up!” The book plate that commemorates our donation was already in the book and is shown below: |
