Douglas County Fair and Rodeo

From the left: Debbie Mills discussing the roles of the fair royalty, including Sophia Foss and Addison Staninger, pictured center and right..

We had a great presentation on Thursday, June 26 on the upcoming Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, which will run from July 25 – August 3.  There are several ways you can take part in this community event!  The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo received the 2024 Large Rodeo of the Year - Mountain State ProRodeo Circuit, beating even the Cheyenne, Greeley and Stock Show rodeos!

  • First, plan to attend.  There will be a Rotary Night at the Fair on Thursday, July 31 – if we purchase tickets in a block we get a discount.  Alex Doyle will be organizing our ticket purchase – look for more information coming soon!

  • Second, the fair needs volunteers.  If you would like to volunteer as an individual at the fair, go to this website: https://douglasvolunteers.com/d/FR

For more information on the exciting range of events the Fair and Rodeo offers, check out their website.

Begone, Weeds!  Welcome, Flowers!

A small but mighty group of Rotarians worked in the sensory gardens at Affinity Ranch on June 21, weeding and planting flowers.  Check out the after and before photos to the left and below...

Serving is Fun

A group of Rotarians and friends helped out at Parker Days, serving in one of the beer tents.  The event was a ton of fun!

Epic Day of Service 2025

The Rotary Club of Parker took part in the Epic Day of Service on May 17, along with hundreds of other Rotary clubs around the world.  Our focus was on projects to benefit local veterans.  We had four projects going to maintain the yards of veterans, in partnership with the VFW and Aging Resources of Douglas County.  Check out the photos in this slide show!

Rotarians at Work -- Yellow Vests, Big Smiles

Thank you to all who came out on Saturday, June 7 to solicit donations for the Parker Task Force at the Stroh Ranch King Soopers.  These are just a few of the smiling faces who volunteered that day...

Affinity Ranch -- The Cabins are in Place!

Under the leadership of Bob Forbes, Michael Graham-Hyde and Tim Mackin, the Club recently completed the installation of five cabins at Affinity Ranch.  These cabins will be used for one-on-one therapy sessions.

The initial phase of the project was to install four concrete caissons per building, in various locations, with anchor systems in preparation for permanent installation.  On Saturday, April 19, a crane and crew arrived to do the moving and lifting of these buildings at three different locations on the ranch.  A number of club members were on hand during the day to assist with the crane guiding, leveling and securely anchoring each building.  The buildings were lifted onto a flatbed trailer and transported to the three sites where the crane lifted and placed them on the foundations.

Site one is located directly southwest of the arena on a hilltop and had no obstructions to contend with.  Sites two and three are located in the sensory gardens with a number of obstacles to affect the lift, which included electrical lines and trees.  The crane was able to lift the two buildings over the power lines and through the trees for placement, as you can see in the photo.  The remaining two sites are located adjacent to the reflection pond and had no obstacles to affect the lift, which went smoothly.

To get a sense of the magnitude of this project, check out this photo album.

Many thanks to all who made this project possible!  We are particularly grateful to Lobato Construction, who donated the use of the huge crane you see in the photos and the expert operators.
