Two Invitations -- July 20

We have TWO invitations to support local Rotary Clubs and charitable organizations, and if you feel ambitious you can attend both!  Read on…

Invitation 1: Tall Tales Ranch

We received the following invitation from Tall Tales Ranch, whose mission is to actively partner with adults “living with I/DD [intellectual and developmental disabilities] in their pursuit of full and enriched lives by creating and sustaining radically inclusive communities and opportunities.”  They spoke to our club a few years ago.

Join us on Saturday, July 20th between 9am-11am at Schweiger Ranch and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee from our Tall Tales Coffee Company team. With a warm cup of coffee in hand, you'll have the opportunity to head over to the Tall Tales Ranch property, meet our team and some potential future residents, and dive deep into the exciting work that we are doing along with a tour of our future community. This event is free of charge. You are free to come and go at any time between 9am-11am. Please RSVP here, or respond to this email saying you'll be there!

You are encouraged to invite a few friends and family to join you for a fun morning! Feel free to forward this email to anyone that you would like to invite along with you.

 The event will include:

  • Chances to win great prizes from some community supporters.

  • A free drink from our full coffee menu.

  • A chance to see our ambassador employees in action on the Tall Tales Coffee Company coffee trailer.

  • Catch up on our progress, learn about our future community, and get updates on our capital campaign and building developments.

The address for the event is:

10822 S Havana St

See the film that sparks action...and what WE can do to Come Together to Nurture Common Good.

There here has been a steady membership decline in church, service, and community organizations and clubs since the 1960s. Science has shown we are better together than apart, both for the good of our community, democracy, and our own mental and physical health. Please register now and consider who you might invite to attend - including friends, family, Interact and Rotaract. The discussion afterwards will be facilitated by CPR Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner.

Supporting Mental Health at Affinity Ranch (Lamplighter version)

Thank you to the Rotarians who helped prepare several small cabins that were being moved from Mustang Ranch in Deer Trail to Affinity Ranch.  They removed the decks from the cabins prior to the cabins being moved.  Click here for more photos of the project, which extended over two Saturdays.

Why the cabins?  Here’s a note from Alicia Engebretson, President of the Board of Directors of Affinity Ranch:

The cabins are intended to be meeting spaces primarily with the intention of having sessions in a shaded area with viewing areas of animals. Psychotherapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists can use these cabins as office spaces to work privately with animals and achieving their individual goals.  Many of the cabins will develop our mental health spaces where we can provide private counseling for youth and adults in the neurodiverse community. The mental health and other therapy programs will be human - animal as assisted and provided by licensed professionals.

Two of the smaller cabins will be converted for small-animal living spaces as their current spaces are literally falling apart and we are wanting to do more activities with these chickens, goats, sheep and alpacas.

We would also use one small cabin potentially for prevocational skills like processing honey from the bees on site.

One small cabin will also be needed for storing small animal care supplies near the small animal enrichment area.  Our plan is to incorporate a close supply area so it’s more of a natural habitat and participants/clients can be close to animals as they are assisting them in daily chores. This is safer for the client and the animals.

Scholarships 2024

The Rotary Club of Parker awarded six area high school students a total of $11,000 in scholarships in May of 2024. The students attended Chaparral, Elizabeth, Legend and Ponderosa high schools. These students will be attending four-year colleges or universities, as well as two-year technical schools, in Colorado, Wyoming, and surrounding states.  Best wishes to all!

Grocery Shopping, and More Ways to Donate to the Foundation!

Yes, you can help the Foundation by your grocery shopping!  See more information below.

The Foundation of the Rotary Club of Parker is where most of the funding comes from to support the club’s service projects.  (We can also receive grants from the District and from Rotary International, depending on the nature of the project.) The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Colorado corporation.

There are many ways you can support the Foundation and therefore support our service projects:

  • Participate in the club’s fundraising activities, from State of the Town in May to the Palisade peach sales in August to Parker Uncorked Wine and Spirits Festival in October

  • Make a donation yourself to the Foundation

  • Donate a car to support the Foundation.  At our last meeting, Foundation Treasurer Dave Selden reported that we received our first funding from a donated car – thank you!

  • Link your store loyalty card (King Soopers and City Market) to the club so that as you shop the stores will donate money back to the linked organization.    For more information on how to link your card, click here.

For more information on supporting the Foundation, check out the club’s website at https://parkerrotary.org/page/rotary-club-of-parker-foundation.  This page also includes links to the current Foundation Board of Trustees and bylaws.
