Student of the Month Chaparral 2021-2022

Congratulations to the Students of the Month from Chaparral High School for the 2021-2022 school year!

We congratulate Jalen Sisneros, our April Student of the Month for Chaparral High School!  Jalen serves the Chaparral community in a variety of roles, including Link Crew and the Interact Club.  She has played basketball for Chap all four years.   Jalen is already engaged in her career goal of teaching as a student intern teaching math to at-risk students at Overland and Eaglecrest High Schools.  As a staff member commented, “[Jalen] is a tireless worker driven by a relentless desire to learn and achieve and by a huge and giving heart.”
 
Jalen has already enlisted in the US Army.  She plans to attend Montana State University to major in secondary education.  We wish you all success in achieving your dreams, Jalen!

Congratulations to Grace Siauw, the March Student of the Month for Chaparral High School!  Grace models Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self by serving the Chaparral community in a wide variety of roles.  She is currently Co-President of Chaparral’s Thespian Troupe, is a Link Crew Commissioner, and the Marketing Head for the Spanish Honor Society.   She is an active member of National Honor Society and has participated in Chaparral’s Battle of the Books for all four years.  She is also a writing tutor.  As one teacher commented, “Grace is an incredible Chap Writing Tutor…. Somehow in the midst of her myriad [theater] responsibilities and her overwhelming course load and everything else on her plate, Grace volunteers again and again to relinquish invaluable free time to help a fellow student with writing.”

Congratulations on your selection, Grace, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

We were happy to welcome Emily Meyers, the February Student of the Month for Chaparral High School to our February 24 meeting.  Emily serves the Chaparral community in a wide variety of roles.  She is currently an officer in DECA and FBLA, and serves as a captain of the Speech & Debate team, where she mentors younger students.  She is on the Link Crew, with a focus on welcoming and mentoring special needs students.  Emily is approaching 400 volunteer hours while at Chaparral!  In addition, she recently placed first at the Continental B league diving competition as part of the Chaparral Girls’ Swim & Dive team.   As one of her teachers noted, “Emily is an amazing face for Chaparral HS” and another commented that  “Emily has an extraordinary ability to empathize with others. Her compassion and commitment to selfless endeavors have made her a source of comfort to many at Chaparral.” 

Emily plans to attend CU Boulder to major in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.  We wish you the best in your future endeavors, Emily.

We congratulate Drue DeRosier, the January Student of the Month for Chaparral High School.  Drue serves as a Peer Counselor in the Chaparral counseling office.  As one of the school counselors commented, “Drue is a superb peer counselor, always welcoming others with a warm smile. His positivity is contagious... His interactions with students are exemplary.”  Drue is also a member of Red Blue Crew that supports athletics and events at Chaparral, and the Ultimate Frisbee Club.
 
Drue plans to attend CSU to major in business.  Congratulations, Drue – we wish you success in your future endeavors!

We congratulate Grace Chang, the December Student of the Month for Chaparral High School!   Grace has exemplified Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self in her time at Chaparral.  She has been a Link Crew leader and a dedicated member and officer in Chaparral’s Interact Club.  (Interact clubs are a branch of Rotary for young people ages 12-18.)  In addition, Grace plays the violin in the Chamber Orchestra and participates in Battle of the Books team competitions.  As one of her teachers commented, “Grace is of the highest character - a very hard-working and dedicated student who is committed to the service of others.” 

Grace hopes to study medical anthropology in college.  We wish you all the best in your future studies, Grace!

Congratulations to Arabella Blaskovic, the November Student of the Month for Chaparral High School.  One of Arabella’s main contributions to the Chaparral community has been through the Link Crew program.  She worked with a Link Crew partner to help freshmen acclimate to life in high school during the difficult COVID pandemic, striving to create a sense of community among the students.  As a school Link Crew advisor commented, “Arabella is one of the most genuine and effective Links I have ever witnessed.”  She also works as a writing tutor and as Executive Officer for National Honor Society as well as the Event Coordinator & Publicist for French Honor Society.  Arabella was praised as exemplifying Chaparral’s motto “Take Care of One Another.”

Arabella is interested in becoming a veterinarian after college.  We wish you the best, Arabella!

We congratulate Duke Mooney, the October Student of the Month for Chaparral High School.  Duke has served the Chaparral community in a wide variety of roles, including in student government and as a joint commissioner of Chaparral's Red Blue Crew.  He has been an active member of DECA for the past three years, including two years in leadership roles.  Duke serves as a Peer Coach helping with Special Olympics for Significant Support Needs students (SSN).  He is also a member of the Boys’ Varsity tennis team.  One school administrator describes Duke as a “pillar of the Chap community.”

Duke has also served the larger Parker community by volunteering at a local food bank.

Congratulations, Duke – we wish you all the best as you move forward from high school!
