Working Together to Provide Access to Clean Water

A worker digs a trench for a water line on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South  Dakota. The line will provide clean water to the home in the background. (Running Strong for American Indian Youth/Courtesy photo)

The Rotary Club of Parker provided financial support for a project on the Pine Ridge reservation to provide access to clean water.  This project was spearheaded by the Boulder Rotary Club.  Click here to read an article that appeared in the Boulder Camera on March 18, 2022 that describes the project.  It's a lovely example of how Rotary clubs pull together expertise and funding from across many clubs to achieve a substantial project.

Some Fun!

Bored Meetings

All are invited to join in the Bored meetings, held most Thursday afternoons starting about 4:00 p.m.  This is an informal social time where we enjoy a beverage, solve the problems of the world, and get to know one another.  We have been meeting at Takoda Tavern (12365 Pine Bluffs Way, Parker).   Please join in as you are able!  Here is part of the group that convened on March 17.

5th Thursday -- March 31, 2022

March 31 is the fifth Thursday of the month, so according to club tradition we will have NO regular club meeting that morning.  Instead, we will have a Fifth Thursday social event -- dinner and the lively spirits of your choice starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Takoda Tavern (12365 Pine Bluffs Way, Parker).   Each attendee will pay his/her own tab at this event.  Please RSVP to Mike Oldham (meoldham@msn.com) so he can give an accurate count to Takoda’s.

Wanted -- Jobs for Afghan Family

We welcomed the Afghan family that our club will sponsor as guests to our March 24 meeting.  The most pressing need right now is work – we are looking for job opportunities in Parker.  If you have any leads on jobs, please let Tim Hayes, Alvaro Pisoni or Jim Muir know.

Grace Siauw, the March Student of the Month for Chaparral High School

Congratulations to Grace Siauw, the March Student of the Month for Chaparral High School!  Grace models Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self by serving the Chaparral community in a wide variety of roles.  She is currently Co-President of Chaparral’s Thespian Troupe, is a Link Crew Commissioner, and the Marketing Head for the Spanish Honor Society.   She is an active member of National Honor Society and has participated in Chaparral’s Battle of the Books for all four years.  She is also a writing tutor.  As one teacher commented, “Grace is an incredible Chap Writing Tutor…. Somehow in the midst of her myriad [theater] responsibilities and her overwhelming course load and everything else on her plate, Grace volunteers again and again to relinquish invaluable free time to help a fellow student with writing.”

Congratulations on your selection, Grace, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Polio Plus 2022 Campaign

Thank you for your generous pledges to the Polio Plus campaign!  Now it's time to fulfill your pledge by sending a payment to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation.  You can either:

  • Bring a check to a meeting, made out to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation.  Please write Polio Plus in the memo line so the Foundation treasurer knows how to credit your donation, and so your donation is eligible for the Foundation match.

  • Mail a check to the Foundation (address = Rotary Club of Parker Foundation, P.O. Box 1472, Parker, CO  80134-1410).  The check should be made out to the Rotary Club of Parker Foundation; please write Polio Plus in the memo line so the Foundation treasurer knows how to credit your donation, and so your donation is eligible for the Foundation match.

  • Send your donation to the Foundation using Zelle, directed to foundation@parkerrotary.org.  Please note Polio Plus in the memo area.  Click here to download instructions on using Zelle to make a payment to the club's Foundation.

Thank you for your support of this effort that has saved countless lives around the world.

Parker Impact Award 2022 – Nominate Someone!

One of the great joys the club has every year is to recognize individuals/groups who have made a significant contribution to Parker during the previous year, in keeping with Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.  We present the Parker Impact Awards in conjunction with the State of the Town event, coming up this year on May 12, 2022.  Dan O’Neill has agreed to head up the committee to solicit nominations and choose this year’s recipient(s).

Anyone, whether they are members of the club or not, can nominate someone to receive a Parker Impact Award.  We encourage you to think of people who deserve this recognition – ask friends and neighbors as well.  For more information on the nomination process, click here.

To view past recipients of the Parker Impact Award, click here.

If you have questions or would like to be part of the selection team, please contact Dan O’Neill at odie2450@comcast.net.
